Val Giamo
I stitch silence into fabric and wood, driven by a hunger to make the unseen tangible.
Val Giamo is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, composer, and pianist based in Gothenburg.
This project began with a gift.

A close friend of mine - a Polish man, now 80 years old - gave me a book titled Poems from Auschwitz. When he handed it to me, he said:
“When I read these poems, I heard your music.”

I am a composer who has worked with several labels, including Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music Group, recently signed a contract with a concert agency, and will be touring Portugal at the beginning of next year.
After receiving this book, I began composing music for choir based on these poems.
The choral music is written with great restraint and respect - allowing space for silence, fragility, and breath. I have recorded the first fragment myself in my home studio; this recording is an initial sketch of the larger work.

As an artist working across disciplines - music, photography, painting, and text - I see this Auschwitz-related project as a potential long-term, multidisciplinary work. In early next year, I plan to travel to Auschwitz, where I will also work with documentary photography.

I am seeking support to realize this project fully. Its final form may include:
-
a professional choral recording,
-
a live concert presentation,
-
a body of documentary photographs,
-
and possibly paintings developed in response to this material.
-

This project is an attempt to listen — carefully — and to create a space where memory, voice, and silence can coexist.

I believe this project holds significant potential and can become an important contribution to cultural memory - not only as a musical work, but as a multidisciplinary artistic gesture rooted in listening, remembrance, and responsibility.

I would be deeply grateful to publicly acknowledge the person who supports the realization of this project, including credit in catalogues, printed materials, and public presentations.
I also believe that supporting this work can become a meaningful and lasting engagement with culture and art - a project that carries ethical weight and artistic depth, and one that both the work and its supporter can stand behind with integrity.

Mother, I call to you with a heart full of despair,
I fall, mother! I have no strength left to bear.
Shield me with your prayers, I implore,
So the cross I bear feels lighter than before.

Where depth can breathe. It is all about a quiet chronicle - an attempt to preserve what memory cannot hold.A diary where image, sound, and word converge to grasp the fleeting, the fragile, the deeply felt.
